Our business school has a core value of education. We are strengthening our research capabilities, and we are striving to cultivate talent for student success and future value creation.
To that end, the business school hired four new teachers in the first semester of 2020. The majors were management (2 persons), management information (1 person), and accounting (1 person), which invited highly qualified teachers in each field.
This time, I met a new teacher who became a family member of a business school and listened to "major research activities, majors, and future plans."
First, I will introduce Professor Chun Jin-suk of the Management major.
Q1. Hello, professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself, professor.
Hello, I'm Chen Jin-suk. I got a Ph.D. in management at Columbia University in the U.S., worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Duke University in the U.S. for two years, and became an assistant professor of business administration at Sungkyunkwan University.
Q2. Please introduce your major briefly, and what made you choose your major?
I'm in the management department, and I study organizational behavior and social psychology in more detail. I chose it because my major research is interesting. The reason is that I can ask and answer a lot of questions about the behavior and relationship of people through my major research. I think we ask so many questions about people in our daily lives. For example, I think the charm of organizational behavior and social psychology is that we can study a lot of questions that we experience in our own lives in a systematic and scientific way, such as why we felt happy at this time, why that person helped me at that time, why that person and I are now apart, etc.
Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University Business School and what you plan to do in the future.
I'm very happy to start anew in such a good environment. From now on, I will do my best to be a helpful person to the school by faithfully conducting research and classes.
Q4. Could you briefly introduce your class?
I am conducting a course on organizational behavior this semester. In this course, I and my students study systematically about the tendency of individuals, groups, and organizations to see. And we discuss how each of us can live a happier life and achieve our own achievements.
Q5. What are your plans for future research?
I want to do a lot of research. I want to do good research. I want to do research that I admit to myself. I want to do research that helps the world.
Q6. What do you think of the ideal educator?
I think a good educator is someone who keeps a pure heart about research, who provides classes that help students, who never loses humility until the end, who admits to his limitations, but who doesn't give up and challenges.
Q7. If you have anything to say to the students studying hard at Sungkyunkwan University School of Business, please tell them!
It's so nice to meet you. There are many difficult conditions now. But if we don't give up, believe in ourselves, step forward, we believe that we will have a good life. Let's cheer up.
