The Management major of the business school (General Graduate School) held the Sungkyunkwan University Management College Management Excellence Paper Award for the first time this year to encourage the research of master's and doctorate students. It is selected from the first and second semesters of the year's graduation papers and academic journal publication papers (including those scheduled to be published), and the journal publication papers are limited to the first author and two co-authors. Kim Min-ji (Best Award), Kim Dae-ho (Best Award) and Choi Soon-joo (Best Award) are three winners. I heard about Kim Min-ji and Won-woo, who won the best prize this year, and their research fields and papers.

<When do CEOs engage in CSR activities? Performance feedback, CEO ownership, and CSR>
1. Hello, please give me a brief self-introduction (research, etc.).
Hello, I'm Kim Min-ji, a Ph.D. student majoring in organizational theory, majoring in business administration at Sungkyunkwan University. After obtaining a master's degree from Sungkyunkwan University, he is currently being coached by Professor Kim Do-hyun, who is majoring in organizational theory, until his doctorate. My main area of interest is organizational learning theory and I focus on research using performance feedback models in detail. We are currently conducting several other research together with our doctoral dissertation and are interested in research topics and fields that do not deviate much from the dissertation that we received this time.
2. I heard you won the best thesis award this time! Please tell us how you feel.
Thank you. First of all, I would like to thank our management professors for creating this opportunity. I think it was more meaningful because it was a thesis award that included the hearts and meanings of professors majoring in management who prepared it to encourage the research of graduate students in our major.
I am very happy to receive the meaningful award of the first Sungkyunkwan University Management major, which was held for the first time. I'll take it as a way to repay you with good research.
With this opportunity, I will use this opportunity as a driving force to grow one step further, and I will try to become a good researcher so that I don't become anyone to the honor of this award. Once again, I would like to thank all the professors and students who majored in management.
3. You wrote a paper titled <When do CEOs in CSR activities? Performance feedback, CEO ownership, and CSR>. Please explain in detail what it contains.
This study explores how CEO ownership and performance feedback mode (PFM) are combined to influence corporate social responsibility activities (CSRs). Because prior studies looking at the relationship between existing CEO equity rates and CSR did not show consistent results, this paper recognizes the need for contextual variables and reveals when and when the CEO's equity rate is less effective in engaging in CSR activities using performance feedback models.
In the existing performance feedback model, when performance is lower than the target set by the company, changes occur in the direction of solving the problem, and on the contrary, when performance is higher than the target, changes in the direction of utilizing free capital. Based on these claims, the study found that CEOs with higher equity rates have higher discretion in decision-making than when performance is lower than target, making them more positive about long-term CSR activities as an alternative to problem solving.
This study shows that various factors, such as CEO characteristics and performance feedback, interact with each other to influence CSR activities, and include complex interests in the reasons and purposes of corporate CSR activities. In particular, this study shows that CEOs can use CSR activities as a means in that they are influenced by performance and change CSR.
4. Were there any difficulties or difficulties in writing your thesis?
Before preparing for this paper, I had a big slump. During my course life, including master's and doctor's, relatively short-term results did not show up compared to my long course life, which led to a slump. However, I think it was an opportunity to overcome my slump rather than the difficulties I had while writing this paper. Of course, I often worked until dawn to find out why the results I expected didn't come out right at once, but in the process, it was a valuable experience to learn a lot with responsibility. Now that I think about it, I really focused on this paper at the time. It remains a really meaningful memory rather than a hard one.
5. Please tell me about your future goals or areas you would like to study.
There's a concept that I've been interested in since I was a master's student, having a research meeting with my advisor, and it's a concept of "truth." The goal is to take an interest in the sincere management activities of the company. In the future, I would like to conduct a study that combines organizational theory to see what these companies' sincere management activities are and, consequently, can have positive effects from a long-term perspective. To a large extent, I am mainly interested in the sustainable management activities of the company. Based on ESG, which is an issue these days, we aim to conduct research on how companies should engage in social responsibility activities and research on their good influence in the future.
I hope my research will be delivered as a meaningful message to society, and I will continue to try to explore and study phenomena in the future to become such a researcher.
