For this purpose, we examine the writings of monks representing each era from Unified Silla to the present, the central agenda and ideological contents of Korean Buddhist thought. For example, Wonhyo (元曉) and Uisang (義湘), during the Unified Silla period, Jinul (知訥) who revitalized Goryeo Buddhism, Hujeong (休靜) during the Joseon Dynasty who established the tradition of patriotic Buddhism, and Manhae (萬海) the Buddhist movement during the Japanese colonial period, and, finally, Seongcheol (性徹) who opened the prelude to modern Buddhism. | |||||||||
