- Interview with Park Sung-joon (GBA, Class of 2008) on the appointment of a professor at National Chen
- Park Sung-joon, an alumnus of our university's Department of Global Management, is currently serving as an assistant professor of business administration at the National University of Politics in Taipei for the fourth year. Alumnus Park Sung-joon entered the Department of Global Business Administration in the first class and participated in various activities both inside and outside the school, and participated in Professor Lee Eun-joo's Neuromarketing Research Project for the first time to feel interest in marketing research. Let's listen to the story of alumnus Park Sung-joon, who is full of memories about the campus, enough to bring a smile to his face when he thinks of his alma mater. 1. Hello, nice to meet you. Please introduce yourself and the field you are currently researching. Hello, I am Park Sung-joon, a graduate of the class of 2008 in the 1st class of global business administration. Immediately after graduating from the undergraduate department, I went to the graduate course of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST) and got a Ph.D. in business engineering. Since then, I gained practical experience in the marketing strategy team of Samsung Electronics' memory division and is currently working as an assistant professor of business administration at National Political University in Taipei, Taiwan. As lecture subjects, Marketing Management and Market Research subjects are taught to undergraduate and MBA students, and Quant Research Method and Marketing Seminar classes are taught as doctoral courses. 2. I heard that you are a professor of marketing at National Chengchi University. I'm curious about the process of getting hired. Please explain the reason and process for applying. When I was in graduate school, I had the opportunity to pass the PhD qualification exam and give lectures at the university. I felt the significance of meeting with students and delivering knowledge, but I felt the limitation of teaching business administration without practical experience. Therefore, I joined Samsung Electronics to gains practical experience after completing my Ph.D. Although I was interested in experiencing living knowledge through practical experience, I challenged the appointment of a professor at a foreign university to realize my dream of becoming an educator. I am currently an assistant professor of business administration at the National University of Politics in Taipei for the fourth year, and I have spent every class preparing for lectures precious and meaningful because I can meet the best students in Taiwan. 3. Until recently, there must have been a lot of disruptions in lectures due to COVID-19. How did you overcome it tin the class? My teaching method is experiential learning through experience and discussion-oriented class to find answers to questions. Online lectures due to COVID-19 were not easy at first, but I sought opportunities to communicate with students by doing offline classes in parallel. In addition, we created a virtual online market and applied marketing techniques that students learned in class to promote their products directly to consumers and create sales. We conducted a project-type class focusing on developing problem-solving skills by learners themselves. Through regular offline meetings, we experienced the process of creating new knowledge by colliding with flashes of knowledge through time to think about students's concerns and questions together. 4. What are some of the most memorable activities you participated in during your undergraduate days? I entered the first class of GBA in the class of 2008, so most of the department activities were unprecedented early attempts. The most memorable school activity was the GBA Prayer Meeting that I created with my Christian colleagues. We met regularly, talked about the Bible, and prayed for the campus together. It was a special meeting because I was able to learn how to illuminate the direction of life and explore the truth through the Bible during my college life. I still keep in touch with the friends I met at the time, and it is an important part of my undergraduate life. It is a also a meaningful in-school activity called Undergraduate Research Program. At that time, I participated in Professor Lee Eun-joo's Neuro Marketing Research Project for the first time and felt interest in marketing research, and now it is an activity that become the first stepping stone for me to grow into a marketing researcher. I am always grateful to my teacher for letting me know my favorite field by experiencing various activities. The research activities I participated in during my undergraduate years played a major role in my career decision, so I am currently selecting a number of undergraduate research assistants to provide student with an opportunity to experience research. One of the most memorable suburban activities is the Cheil Worldwide Marketing Contest I participated in when I was an undergraduate. At that time, I worked with three colleagues in the seminar room of the International Pavilion until late at night for a few weeks to build a Samsung Electronics mobile campaign strategy and win a silver award. It was a valuable opportunity to experience how the knowledge I learned in my undergraduate years was used in practice, along with sharp evaluations by working-level officials at the time. It is also an impressive suburban activity that I have worked with MIT Media Lab graduate students in the United States. We explored the needs from the perspective of consumers using digital technology and explored how to derive service design. Since then, we have created a controller model for IoT services that can control multiple digital products at once, and we have an opportunity to display our products in Daehak-ro. Through conversations with Ph.D. students at that time, I became more confident in my career path to graduate school. 5. If you have any research results published by the conference or papers published in famous journals, please introduce them together. I'm interested in the marketing phenomenon that occurs at the point where consumers and digital technologies meet. For example, when a mobile advertisement is presented, the consumer encounters the advertisement through a mobile app or website. A study comparing the effectiveness of mobile's two advertising paths is published in the Journal of Advertising Research(SSCI) in 2020. In addition, a study was published in the journal Psychology & Marketing(SSCI) in 2021 that looked at how different technology acceptance process occurred in hospitals and restaurants when consumers received services through artificial intelligence(AI) humanoid robots. A recent study using text-mining technique to analyze reviews left by consumers on websites and comparing online service evaluation according to language use between a group that uses English as a native language and a group that uses English as a second language was recently published in the Journal of Services Marketing(SSCI) jorunal. 6. Please tell me about your future research plan. I am interested in future marketing research using digital technology. Recently, we are conducting a meta study to analyze big data literature on AI chatbot services. In addition, I would like to conduct research on human creativity and emotions based on the use of AI technology in the mid to long term. I would like to theoretically study how consumers react cognitively and experience emotionally when dealing with new technologies. Through this, I would like to scientifically explore consumer needs and present practical implications linked to corporate sales. 7. If you have a chance to visit your alma mater, where do you want to go the most? When I think of my alma mater, I naturally draw a smile. I think it's because we made a lot of memories together when we were young on campus. If I visit my alma mater, I would like to visit the seminar room of the International Hall. When I was in the first grade, the International Hall was not yet completed, and all classes were held in the International Hall from the second grade. I think I spent a long time living in the seminar room of the International Hall. Especially when I was in the third grade, I remember my teammates staying up all night preparing for the I-core project. Also, I want to go to a snack bar located at the side door of the library. I put a note on the wall with my colleagues on the post-it, but I'm not sure if it still exists.^^ 8. Lastly, please tell me what you want to say or give advice to your juniors at Sungkyunkwan University's business school. If you stop trying and give up, you won't be able to reap the fruits of your harvest. I'm sure you're afraid and worried because your career after graduation is your first time, but I think you can take on challenges in the future because your expectations and hopes coexist. Rather than worrying too much about the uncertain future, I encourage you to become juniors who are trying and moving forward little by little.

, he said, "Samsung offers relatively more training opportunities to employees than other companies. For example, they hire English teachers for employees traveling abroad and provide training on non-verbal communication or storytelling techniques. Samsung;s biggest strength and asset lies in its large R&D spending. This expenditure of R&D costs reminds employees that Samsung continues to develop and is not a company that repeats what it has been doing." About how are younger generational cohort of workers transforming office culture, he said, "After the pandemic, many large companies' flexibility has changed. You can adjust your commuting time flexibly, and you can go exercise in the evening. In addition, in the case of corporate Kakao, executives and employees use English nicknames to call each other. - Wang Ji-Hue (Business 18) Student Interview_Interview on receiving the Dean's Award for Student Success
- 1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Wang Ji-hue, class of 18, Department of Business Administration, who graduated this August. Due to COVID-19 and personal reasons, I delayed my admission to the UK graduate program and am currently an intern of product manager for AI products at Baidu company. 2. I heard that you won the Dean Award in the Student Success Award at the degree ceremony in 2022. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. To be honest, it was unexpected to receive this award. The past winner's careers on the school website were so great that I wasn't confident when I applied. But I applied with the thought that it's the last 'task' that I can submit at Sungkyunkwan. Eventually, it was such an honor to receive this award, and it seems to have put a perfect end to my life at Sungkyunkwan. 3. Are there any internal and external activities that you participated in when you were an undergraduate? Please introduce the most memorable activity. As an international student, I received a lot of help in adapting to studying and cultural life in Korea. Sungkyunkwan provided various opportunities for cultural exchange activities inside and outside the school, so it was an unforgettable opportunity. The most memorable activity for me was Yeonam Road Korea-China Youth Peace Camp that I participated in in the summer of 2019. There, I got to know a lot of great peers, there were Chinese students studying in Korea, and there were Korean students from prestigious Chinese universities. We listened to a lecture by young North Korean people, toured the DMZ area, and participated in panel research. Even after event, I meet these friends often and travel with them, and I am still close to them. 4. You must have had a lot of difficulties in campus life due to COVID-19, how did you overcome it? At first, I couldn't get used to the learning method of taking classes only on the internet because I couldn't go to the campus. And I'm not a very self-controlled person, so I always watch class videos during the last period of attendance check, so the learning effect was not good. However, as time went on, I got used to it, and the difficult part is that I can pause and find the material or listen to it repeatedly, which is something I can't have with offline classes. And because I didn't have to go back to campus, I had the opportunity to do corporate internships, and in 2020, I went back to China and participated in several internships. I think practice is also an important way to improve skills for business students. 5. What are your future career paths and goals? After four years of studying in business school, I felt the ability and confidence to pursue higher academic goals. To respond to complex business data, I want to learn advanced data science analytics techniques and ultimately gain the ability to understand and value how data science analytics can be applied to the business sector. After finishing graduate school, I want to get a job as a business analyst at a global company and use my multilingual strengths and extensive study abroad experience to become an international, innovative, and leadership person like the educational goals of our business school. 6. Lastly, please give us some advice for the classmates of the business school. If you want to continue your studies or get a job in a business-related field, I think it is important to find a direction you are interested in in university studies. The Department of Business Administration provides a very wide range of curriculum covering all aspects of management, including management information, marketing, production management, personnel organization, finance and accounting. If we can choose one field and focus on it, we will be more competitive for employment, and it would be good to apply for a second major. Many international students like me can have a lot of difficulties in studying abroad, and the biggest difficulty is not only language and lifestyle, but also loneliness. My advice is that you don't have to participate in too many social activities to get rid of loneliness, but sometimes learn to enjoy loneliness, and focus on studying or hobbies during your time alone to gain strength in self-development. This experience of living in Korea itself will be a precious memory of our lives.

- Business school students account for nearly half of Sungkyunkwan University certified public accountants...
-
Business school students accounted for nearly half of the successful applicants for certified public accountants at our university. In the 57th CAP exam this year, Sungkyunkwan University produced 116 students, the second most successful candidate after Korea University. Of the 116 students, 54 were accepted from business schools(based on enrollment and graduates), nearly half of them. In 2021, 54 out of 105 successful applicants and 59 out of 99 successful applicants in 2020 were all registered students and graduates of the business school. The secret of producing so many successful applicants every year is that they run a CPA class(Songhoeheon) to help students prepare for the exam smoothly. It provides a learning space for students preparing for the CPA exam, provides a wide range of support, including online lecture support, mock test implementation and scholarship support for excellent students, and mentoring senior passersby. In particular, Jeong Moon-ki(Accounting Major at Business University), and advisor to the CPA class, donated 50 million won(5 years of agreement) to the 'Certified Accountant Class Development Fund' in 2017 and another 30 million won(3 years of agreement) in 2022. Professor Jeong Moon-ki said, "As a senior, I want to help our students realize their dreams. I hope more students will be interested in certified public accountants and develop their dreams." he said. Year Sungkyunkwan University final successful applicants Students from a business school among successful applicants Share(%) 2022 116 54 46.5 2021 105 54 51.4 2020 99 59 59.5 2019 86 57 66.2 2018 75 46 61.3

- Cho Hyun-woo (GBA 15) Student Interview_Interview on winning the Dean's Award for Student Success Award
-
1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hello! I'm Cho Hyun-woo, majoring in Global Business Administration at Sungkyunkwan University. I finished my bachelor's degree this August (A photo of the graduation ceremony in the background of Myeongnyundang.) 2. I heard that you won the Dean Award in the Student Success Award at the degree ceremony in 20222. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. Thank you to the school officials and the professors for teaching for four years. It's an honor o receive a big award at the end of college. I don't think 'success' itself can be evaluated relatively because it's invisible. I think everyone who attended this summer's degree ceremony has succeeded because true 'success' is about achieving their dreams and goals. I hope all alumni with fulfill their responsibilities from all walks of life and succeed. I will also work hard to become a talented person suitable for he dean's award and contribute to Sungkyunkwan again. 3. Are there any internal and external activities that you participated in when you were an undergraduate? Please introduce the most memorable activity. I participated in volunteer work. During the winter vacation of the second grade, I worked as a staff member of the International Youth Real Start-up Competition at Junior Achievement and served as an interpreter and protocol for VIPs in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the first and second grades. Junior Achievement is an organization that provides free economic education to teenagers from all over the world. As a UN-recognized NGO with over 100 years of tradition, it was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. When I was a high school student, I won the first place in a domestic competition under the theme of 'Sell vending machines to India', and it is also an organization that has a deep relationship with me. In the end, it is the same for any discipline but I thought that business administration, in particular, had limitations in studying only books. There are many industries, more companies than that, and there are various jobs, but a person's body is one, right? I think experience and reflection on what I am good at and what I like are important in career exploration, and I think it is a big experience to challenge start-ups. This is because you can devise a business model through ideas and organically consider various aspects from logistics to business strategies. Although I participated as a volunteer, it was a meaningful time to interact with teenagers in the Asia-Pacific region. Junior Achievement is sponsored by some of the world's leading companies, opening up opportunities to gain insight from a wide range of current employees. I also remember the activities of the Korean Culture and Diplomacy Corps. Interpreters and protocol were performed at various cultural and diplomatic events attended by foreign VIPs. I've never been to a language training program, so I especially had a strong desire for language skills. I improved my language skills to a professional and formal degree beyond everyday conversation. It was a meaningful experience to promote Korean culture through various activities such as interpreting inside and outside the Argentina ambassador to Korea at the World Costume Festival. (Diplomatic Mission to Korea Visits Daegu. The cultural expert in front of me explained it in Korean, and I interpreted it in English.) (This is the poster of the competition that I participated in as a volunteer.) 4. You graduated with excellent grades, do you have your own know-how? I tried to participate in all classes with a sense of purpose. I'm ashamed, but I'm a very lazy person. I work hard on activities that I like and am interested in, but if I am not interested, I don' invest time at all. In fact, in the first semester of the first grade, I received low grades by taking school-designated subjects and department-designated subjects one after another. After receiving my report card for the first time, I invested more time in my studies because I thought, 'I need to study a little.' I put my heart and soul into which course to take in the course registration. I read the syllabus carefully and thought about what I could learn by completing the class. Let me give you an example of a finance class that I studied with the most interest. Finance assumes reasonable users with sufficient knowledge, but it's doubtful whether humans make reasonable economic decisions. After completing
, , , I learned classical valuation techniques, and observed the volatility of the real market based on incomplete rationality through and . In order to learn mathematical methodology, I also took math subjects such as , , and . In the case of parts that cannot be solved through the class plan, I actively asked the professors through e-mail. I carefully considered which professor was teaching even if it was the same class. I took the classes of Professor Choi Kwan and Professor Jeon Dae-seok, respectively. In the case of , I took the class because the professor said that he deals with the accounting for redeemable convertible preferred stocks that I was interested in, In the case of , I took the class because the professor said that I could receive more than three corrections in a value-neutral manner. For good grades, I recommend taking the initiative in designing courses rather than taking courses with a high average credit ratio. 5. What are your future career paths and goals? I want to break away from 'eating&livingism' and create a society where we can live well together. Based on my major, global business administration, my dream is to think about the company's challenges together, present solutions, and become an expert in corporate finance. In the second round of the CPA exam, I got a first postponement of the audit and for the time being, I plan to finish the exam by experiencing internship in M&A and the audit department. The more I study, the more clear I become about what I know and what I don't know. I'm such greedy personality, so I have a lot of possibilities about what kind of career I will choose. However, no matter what career path I choose, I plan to make various efforts to become a person with expertise in one hand and a sense of field work in the other. 6. Lastly, please give us some advice for the classmates of the business school. I hope you're not afraid of trying and falling. I think college students are the marginal people between students and members of society. You learn your major, and at the same time, you encounter relationship problems that most students haven't experienced before. I think the spirit of challenge and the experience that comes with it can be a solution for you. When I reflected on my past college life, I learned more by encountering a new society, environment, and people than by thinking and exploring with my head alone. It's okay to make mistakes. Even the stroke of a young day is fine. There is no perfect life without mistakes, no life where everything goes according to plan. I want you to grow yourself through various experiences. (This is a picture of Annapurna base camp in the Himalayas. I've tried it since I got an ankle injury.) -
