There are two kinds of advice I would like to give you. First, I think consistency is the most important thing in graduate school life. Rather than trying to produce results in a short period of time, I think it is necessary to continue studying steadily with the idea of taking steps. Second, I think we need to make efforts to have an objective view of our research. I think it is important to accept feedback from professors and other researchers with an open mind. I think it's necessary to look for and review the opposite evidence, not just supporting the claim that you think is right. Thank you.

- Kim Ga-jin (17th in Business Administration), runner-up in L'Oreal Brand Storm
- On May 21, a team that includes Kim Ga-jin (17th in Business Administration) won the runner-up prize at the global marketing contest "Loreal Brand Storm" held at L'Oreal Korea. L'Oreal Storm is a global marketing contest for college students and graduate students around the world every year, and 40,000 people from 65 countries have participated since it began in 1992. The brand Storm has applied for more than 100 teams nationwide, and it is the first time that Sungkyunkwan University's team has advanced to the final round. I met Kim Ga-jin and listened to the details. 1.Hello^^ It's so nice to meet you like this! Please introduce yourself first. Hello! I am Kim Ga-jin and I am majoring in Business Administration at Sungkyunkwan University. 2. You won the runner-up in the global marketing contest held by L'Oreal Korea. Please tell us how you feel. At first, it was just a curious contest, but as I spent more time and effort, I wanted to do better, but fortunately, I was able to win the runner-up prize, which was a meaningful experience. Especially, with our ideas and business plans, we received positive reviews from the judges and executives. Even if I didn't win the award, I learned a lot from the process of preparing for Brandstorm. 3. You participated in the internship at L'Oreal with the victory of this contest, and I wonder what kind of work you were in charge of. As Brand Storm was a marketing contest, I was given the opportunity to become a marketing intern for the award, so I was in charge of marketing for L'Arreal's department store business brand Lancome. One of the big features of L'Oreal internships is that interns are assigned a project themselves so that they can have a hands-on experience, and I'm in charge of planning a plan to attract customers in their 20s from Lancome's Star Products Foundation. In this process, I was able to experience various marketing tasks such as digital campaign analysis, department store field secret, and competitive research. Especially, I was an ordinary consumer in my 20s, and now I'm a company that targets people like me, so I was able to analyze the data and plan it myself. 4. Do you have any episodes from working at L'Oreal? One of the episodes that came to mind when I was working is that I filmed a YouTube video with my intern colleagues, and at L'Oreal, every internship rider will upload a video on L'Oreal's official YouTube channel. We prepared contents about how to film self-introduction videos, and when I was busy doing projects or daily work, I had a lot of fun meeting my colleagues, filming videos, and chatting. It was also amazing that I was preparing for the internship and now I'm in the position of appearing in the video for the people who are preparing for it! 5. What did you feel while preparing for this contest? At first, I thought, "Of course I can't do it," because Brandstorm is a big contest and smart people from all over the world participate. But instead of giving up without even starting, I prepared to submit it, and I wanted to compliment myself on how well I did it without giving up and challenging myself when I passed the first and second and third rounds, and I got the runner-up result, which led to my internship at L'Oreal. I think I learned a lesson that I don't give up even if I don't try it, and if I want to do something, I'll try it no matter what! 6. Please share some tips with our students preparing for the contest.^^ It depends on what kind of contest you prepare for, but since there are many cases where you prepare for the competition as a team, the ability to collaborate is the most important thing. While working with people for a long time will lead to conflicts and conflicts, it is most important to develop better ideas by listening to each other's stories and coordinating their opinions. Usually, we think contests require fresh and new ideas, but I think it's also a tip to come up with ideas that are both concrete and feasible and attractive for the company! 7. Lastly, please say a word to the students of Sungkyunkwan University's business school. I've always felt this, but I think there are a lot of smart and talented students everywhere I put them. I believe that if everyone tries various contests or contests, there will be good results!

- Professor Oh Jong-min (Financial), selected as an <excellent instructor> in online classes for the first semester of 202
- Sungkyunkwan University held an award ceremony on the 18th (Friday) at the 600th Anniversary Memorial Hall to select the best online instructors for the first semester of 2020. The selection criteria selected a total of 20 instructors, taking into account the quality of lectures, communication with students, and satisfaction with students' lectures. On that day, President Shin Dong-ryul, Vice President Yoo Hong-joon, and Kim Dong-wook, the head of the school's affairs office, attended the event to deliver appreciation plaques and souvenirs. Professor Oh Jong-min (Principal: Financial Management) was selected from the business school. Professor Oh Jong-min said, "Finance management is one of the subjects that various types of students take, as there are not only students from business schools but also students from other departments who double major. It was important not to let these diverse students feel left out, especially under non-face-to-face classes. As part of this effort, the e-mail answer policy was shared during the semester so that any questions they asked could be answered within a maximum of 24 hours. The most important part of this semester was to answer students' questions on weekends so that everyone could feel that they were being warmly cared for during difficult and difficult times. Maybe that's why this semester was like a 24-hour full-time call center. "More than anything, I felt the most rewarding in that I received good reviews from my students. Although the class was conducted online due to Corona 19, students actively participated in the lecture, so I was able to enjoy the lecture. I will prepare harder for the class and give a more satisfying lecture. At the ceremony, President Shin Dong-ryul told outstanding instructors, "To improve the quality of university education, we need the professors' unremitting efforts and passion. "Excellent instructors who identify what needs are through constant communication with students and approach them first are the main pillars of our university's development," he said. In the future, we will share information on how to operate online classes through interviews with excellent instructors and how to produce effective lecture contents, expand the operation of high-quality online classes through sharing experiences of teaching excellent instructors, and seek ways to optimize online classes for academic unit characteristics.

The majors were management (2 persons), management information (1 person), and accounting (1 person), which invited highly qualified teachers in each field. This time, I met a new teacher who became a family member of a business school and listened to "major research activities, majors, and future plans." First, I will introduce Professor Chun Jin-suk of the Management major. Q1. Hello, professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself, professor. Hello, I'm Chen Jin-suk. I got a Ph.D. in management at Columbia University in the U.S., worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Duke University in the U.S. for two years, and became an assistant professor of business administration at Sungkyunkwan University. Q2. Please introduce your major briefly, and what made you choose your major? I'm in the management department, and I study organizational behavior and social psychology in more detail. I chose it because my major research is interesting. The reason is that I can ask and answer a lot of questions about the behavior and relationship of people through my major research. I think we ask so many questions about people in our daily lives. For example, I think the charm of organizational behavior and social psychology is that we can study a lot of questions that we experience in our own lives in a systematic and scientific way, such as why we felt happy at this time, why that person helped me at that time, why that person and I are now apart, etc. Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University Business School and what you plan to do in the future. I'm very happy to start anew in such a good environment. From now on, I will do my best to be a helpful person to the school by faithfully conducting research and classes. Q4. Could you briefly introduce your class? And we discuss how each of us can live a happier life and achieve our own achievements. Q5. What are your plans for future research? I want to do a lot of research. I want to do good research. I want to do research that I admit to myself. I want to do research that helps the world. Q6. What do you think of the ideal educator? I think a good educator is someone who keeps a pure heart about research, who provides classes that help students, who never loses humility until the end, who admits to his limitations, but who doesn't give up and challenges. Q7. If you have anything to say to the students studying hard at Sungkyunkwan University School of Business, please tell them! It's so nice to meet you. There are many difficult conditions now. But if we don't give up, believe in ourselves, step forward, we believe that we will have a good life. Let's cheer up.

- “3M X SKKU GBA Summer Contest” for Global Business Administration
- The Department of Global Management held a summer contest for one month from 3M and 2020.7.13 to 2020.8.10 (Mon). The 3M X SKKU GBA Summer Contest was organized by the 3M B2C Business Group (CBG), which includes Professor Kim Young-han, head of the Global Management Department, and Cho Hyun-min, a graduate of the Global Management Department, for students who were unable to engage in various activities due to the Corona 19 incident. It is an industry-academic cooperation project in which participating students plan sales promotion plans and marketing programs for the 3M product line by directly planning sales strategies and budget estimates for actual products and new products, and it is an activity that is implemented to help foster students' actual competencies. Starting with the kickoff meeting, the 3M X SKKU GBA Summer Contest was held in the preliminary round of 10 teams each under three themes, and a total of six teams, two of the 30 preliminary teams, advanced to the finals. The finalists received feedback, including marketing strategies, through interim feedback and then proceeded with the final presentation with the complementary output. The final round of the 3M X GBA marketing contest was held at the 3M Korea headquarters on August 10 (Monday), and 12 3M employees, including Ham Byung-sun, head of the B2C business division, and Kim Hak-kyun, vice dean of the business school, reviewed the students' presentations by subject. Due to the limited number of offline attendees, other 3M staff and members of the final team participated in the finals in real time through Zoom. "Because we had to set up marketing strategies for our products before the launch of the Korean market, we had a difficult time getting a target, but we also had a much more challenging approach. In particular, carrying out tasks on digital marketing strategies has led to more careful viewing of digital advertising, which is common in everyday life. Thanks to this, it was a good time to think about my position as both an ad collector and a planner."

[Special Feature] Impressed by Sungkyunkwan University's philosophy and culture that values "innovation" and "us".
Our business school has a core value of education. We are strengthening our research capabilities, and we are striving to cultivate talent for student success and future value creation. To this end, four new teachers were appointed in the first semester of the 2020 school year, and the majors were management (two), management information (one), and accounting (one) were invited as highly competent teachers in each field. I met "Professor Seo Ah-young" of , a new teacher who became a family member of a business school, and listened to "major research activities, majors, and future plans." Q1. Hello, professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself, professor. Good morning. Nice to meet you. I have worked as an assistant professor and associate professor at Hong Kong Municipal University for the past 7 years. The School of Creative Media, where I belong, aims to foster innovative and creative talent by combining arts, science and engineering. I conducted classes and research that combine science, technology, and art there. For example, in information visualization classes, students were asked to combine statistical analysis of data with artistic expression to create an infographic. This approach is possible when combining information extracted from data analysis with graphics, animation, visualization technology, storytelling techniques, and so on, allowing students to learn analytical thinking, engineering skills, and art and design at the same time. Through the process of developing and teaching convergence education programs, I realized that creative destruction is needed even in the traditional boundaries of learning. Social scientists, engineers, philosophers, and artists use different academic perspectives and methodological approaches, but they also realize that they are looking at different parts of the problem to solve the same problem. I'm currently working with researchers in computer-human interaction, game research, and computer science. Q2. Please introduce your major briefly, and what made you choose your major? My major is management information system. After majoring in humanities in the undergraduate department, I became aware of the importance of information technology while working as an analyst at a foreign bank called Credit Suisse. I became interested in the field of management information system after seeing information technology replace the banking review business, which was considered the most necessary part of human-specific analytical thinking. Our society today has become so profound that the impact of information technology is incomparable to what I felt 20 years ago. In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, which is dominated by topics such as innovation through information technology, digital transformation, and co-existence of machines and people, I think the importance of the field of management information systems has grown even more. Management information system is the field of understanding organizations and societies that are transformed into technology and studying ways that technology and humans can coexist. By understanding and predicting changes in the rapidly changing technical environment, I think the main goal of our major in management information systems is to suggest that humans can better adapt to such environments and use technology more effectively. Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew at Sungkyunkwan University Business School and what you plan to do in the future. I'm very happy and excited to have the opportunity to research and work with great professors and excellent students at Sungkyunkwan University's School of Business. Although the semester started not long ago, I was impressed by Sungkyunkwan University's philosophy and culture that values "innovation" and "we." As a member of Sungkyunkwan University's business school, I will try to contribute to the development of schools and departments. Q4. Could you briefly introduce your class? My subject this semester is the management information system. This class explores how information systems combine the labor of machines and human labor to drive innovation and gain competitive advantage. Discuss the business impact of information technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robots, automation, and the Internet of Things. I emphasize that in this class we deal with information technology topics, but the key lies in understanding people. After all, innovation due to technology must be understood from a human-centered perspective of human life and happiness. That's why my first class starts with a question: "What are the unique characteristics of distinguishing human beings from machines?" "Are we already cyborgs?" I think exploring these essential problems is the starting point for understanding the impact of information technology. Q5. What are your plans for future research? I'm studying how user experience affects cognitive performance in a technology-mediated virtual space. The concept of virtuality is ideal, but at the same time implies a feasible possibility. Recently, we have been working with industry practitioners, computer-human interaction researchers, and game researchers to empirically explore the innovation and business impact of virtual reality (VR) technology, and the impact on individuals' feelings and perceptions. From now on, I would like to suggest insightful implications for humans, technology, and society through convergence research between various academic institutions. -

- Professor Park Heung-joo won the Maekyung New Scientist's Paper Award at the 22nd Korea Management Association Convergen
- ◆ Park Heung-joo, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, in the Korea Management Association, Maekyung Outstanding Paper Award / New Scientist's Paper Award ◆ Professor Park Heung-joo of Sungkyunkwan University, along with Oh Seung-jun, a professor at Beijing University, and Kelly Ding, a Ph.D. student at Beijing University, won this year's Maekyung New Journal Award for his thesis "Cross-Listing, Foreign Independent Directors and Firm Value." Professor Park said, "With the growing interest in Chinese companies' investment, financing, and cross-listing overseas, the research began to find out how the composition of the board of directors changes when corporate governance and legal systems cross-listed in advanced countries and how the changed board affects corporate value." "In the case of Chinese companies, increasing the number of 'Quality Foreign Outside Directors' who have abundant experience such as financing from advanced countries has positive effects on overseas sales, financing, and governance improvement of companies," he said. "I think this research can give implications to domestic companies that want to raise funds and expand their business networks in addition to cross-listing abroad." Park's team used data from listed companies released by the Chinese authorities as basic data for the research. It analyzed the experience and nationality of members of the board of directors by selecting Chinese companies that cross-listed overseas, confirming that companies significantly increased the number of foreign outside directors after cross-listed overseas. The research team then came up with results that the existence of 'Quality foreign outside directors' is related to the market capitalization of the companies that are studied, value, and amount of foreign operations. Professor Park explained, "After examining the nationality and personal experience of foreign directors of quality, we judged them based on standards such as the World Bank's annual corporate governance index." Regarding the study, Park said, "The cross listing abroad could be a breakthrough for Korean companies that are thirsty for financing due to the Corona 19 scandal." However, it also became a challenging experience. By conducting tasks about the digital marketing strategy, we carefully observed digital ads that are often available in the daily life. Thanks to the contest, it was a valuable time that we were able to consider both positions as receiver and planner of ads simultaneously.”
