- [Contribution] Professor Park Myeong-seop, International Newspaper_My hometown is Busan!
- Watch Na Hoon-ah's "My Hometown is Busan" and Choi Baek-ho's "If I go to Busan" on YouTube, thinking of Gwangalli and Haeundae with my eyes closed. Looking at the water of Nakdong River from the window on the left side of the train departing for Seoul leaving Busan Station behind in February 2002, I promised to return in August 2022 when I retired but I still live in Seoul. Thanks to the two singers from Busan, I sometimes soothe my hometown's longing with music. Recently, I read an article about Narim Lee Byung-joo's 30th anniversary of death in an international newspaper. It was good news. How many times have I read Narim's novels? The last novel I read was 'Don't Look Back', which I read with a sigh after giggling in my mind more that a decade ago. My thoughts bite my tail. One day in 1982, my graduate school advisor showed me a column of the late Lee Byung-joo's "Unforgettable Person" and said, "Mr. Park! Mail this magazine to your father." He was a graduate of the Tokyo Foreign Language College, where about 10 or so brilliant Koreans entered before liberation, and was fluent in English as well as native Chinese and Japanese. He used to let my father and he drinks by the bowl in Seomyeon, Busan. I thought maybe he also talked about the person who appeared in the column "Unforgettable Person". Both of them had already interacted with the late Park Hee-yeon. The column by Mr. Narim who dropped out of Waseda University's Department of University of Literature, was about my advisor and Park Hee-yeon, a fellow student of Tokyo Foreign Studies in the 1930s. I still remember that my father talked a lot about this high school senior and his family. The column was roughly like this. The writer(Lee Byung-joo), who was a French literature student but dropped out of the class, recalled Park Hee-yeon's excellence(English, French is really outstanding) at Japan's top foreign language education institution and introduced Park Hee-yeon's episode as a student at Busan 2nd Commercial School(later Busan Commercial High School, now Kaesong High School) At that time, the principal's office of Busan 2nd Commercial School was cleaned on student duty, and one day when a Japanese principal came to work, a parrot in the principal's cage muttered, "Bakayaro, Bakayaro!" According to an investigation conducted by the angry principal, it was also said that Park Hee-yeon educated parrots like that. My father is from Busan Commercial High School, and I am from Seomyeon, Busan, where the school was. While reading the column, I was relieved while holding my stomach and laughing. Oh! There was someone like this. Park Hee-yeon was born in Miryang and spent her middle and high school days in Busan, frequently contributed columns such as 'My struggle against cancer' to newspaper in Busan, and served as a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Inha University. As I majored in international trade at the time, I thought like this. How did he get to Tokyo from Busan? How did my advisor from Wonsan get to Tokyo? By train from Wonsan to Gyeongseong, 1 night in Gyeongseong, by train from Gyeongseong to Busan, 1 night in Busan, by government ferry for 2 days and 1 night, disembarking at Shimonoseki and overnight, train bound for Tokyo from there. I think it will take 4 nights and 5 days door to door. What a combination of sea and land transport! Thoughts bite tail. Another person my father often told me was Park Ok-jul, a former professor of French literature and Seoul National University, from Seomyeon, Busan. I think the person who studied abroad from Dongnae High School at the invitation of the French government in the 1950s was my father's mentor. Years ago, my father came to Seoul to meet him for the last time in his life. That image of my father remain in my mind. There was no French speaker in Busan, so he sometimes told me that the priest of Daegu Cathedral was from France, so he went to Daegu for one night and two days to talk in French. .My father was born in Busan and lived only Busan except for the Korean War and studying in the United States. My father, who was over 90 years old, went to the U.S. as a Fulbright scholarship in the 1960s and taught English at Kyungnam High School, Busan High School, and Busan National University. Writing about three outstanding foreign language literature majors in Busan based on article by Narim Lee Byung-joo, it led to the idea that Busan was also a city that produced people overflowing with global DNA. On October 15, a BTS concert was held in Busan to pray for the hosting of the world fair. That was amazing. I sincerely pray that the 2030 World Expo will be held in Busan thanks to the support and passion of BTS and the wishes of Busan citizens and the people. - Student Yoon Seo-young interviewed about winning the 'Campus Analytics Challenge' in the U.S.
- Yoon Seo-young(U of SC, MS in Business Analytics double degree), a master's student in the BK21 Fintech Convergence Department at our university, won the 'Wells Fargo Campus Analytics Challenge' competition hosted by Wells Fargo bank in the U.S. The competition was held for all college and graduate students in the United States, and Yoon Seo-young was selected as one of the eight finalists. Student Yoon Seo-young participated under the theme of ‘Determine Transaction Categories Using Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing’ and said that it was a good opportunity to experience the role of data scientists in the financial industry and explore how artificial intelligence intersects. Let's meet Yoon Seo-young and hear more about her story. 1. Hello, please introduce yourself first. Hello, I'm Yoon Seo-young majoring in Fintech Convergence at Sungkyunkwan University. After graudating from Ewha Womans University with a degree in business administration, I entered the spring semester of 2021 and am currently pursuing a double degree at the University of South Carolina. 2. I heard that you won the Wells Fargo Campus Analytics Challenge in the U.S. Congratulations. Please give us a brief acceptance speech. It's been about a year and a half since I entered graduated school with a interest in data science and FIntech, and I'm very happy that my efforts have paid off. I majored in business administration when I was an undergraduate, and there were many difficulties in studying other fields, but it is rewarding to be able to produce good results. Also, through this competition, I was able to check my aptitude and interest in the field once again. 3. What is the ‘Wells Fargo Campus Analytics Challenge’ hosted by Wells Fargo Bank in the United States? Wells Fargo is one of the four largest commercial banks in the U.S. and hosts machine learning competition for all college and graduate students in the U.S. Each year, it provides new self-data and opportunities for students to experience the role of data scientists in the real financial industry and develop creative models tat solve problem 4. Please explain 'Determine Transaction Categories Using Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing’ that you studied. The theme of the 2022 competition was to develop a model that predicts customer's bank transaction categories based on given bank transaction descriptions using machine learning and natural language processing. Training data is categorized into 10 categories, and each transaction history is about one sentence long and includes information such as data, place, brand, amount, and seller code(MCC). After extracting meaningful features from transaction data using natural language processing, we went through the process of creating a classification model by applying machine learning algorithms based on the selected feature and meta data. Finally, we applied the developed model to classify unlabeled data, and wrote and submitted a report in a short paper format. Traditional text processing and feature extraction methods are not sufficient and suitable for extracting meaningful information because bank transaction data is very short compared to general text. Therefore I believe that finding a new method/combination text processing that matches the nature of the data was the most important factor in this competition. 5. What are your future career and goals? As a Data scientist, I want to develop a digital strategy that can help financial institutions make data-driven decisions and provide high-quality financial services to customers. I also want to contribute to digital transformation of financial institutions and innovation in financial services through this. In the long run, I would like to expand my base as a STEM female leader in the United States. 6. Lastly, please give us some advice for students interested in fintech convergence major. There are many data science graduate schools in Korea, but Sungkyunkwan University's Fintech Convergence Major is the only with a clear domain and multiple degrees with overseas graduate schools. Because you can comprehensively study various disciplines, including finance, statistics, and computer science, everyone like me who is new to science and engineering, or those who are new to finance, can full challenge it. It is also highly recommended that you can consider a career in the United States through multiple degrees, expanding the diversity of opportunities. If you are interested in fintech and have decided on a domain in the financial field, I hope you will challenge it and have an opportunity to successfully change/strengthen your major.

- Interview with Park Sung-joon (GBA, Class of 2008) on the appointment of a professor at National Chen
- Park Sung-joon, an alumnus of our university's Department of Global Management, is currently serving as an assistant professor of business administration at the National University of Politics in Taipei for the fourth year. Alumnus Park Sung-joon entered the Department of Global Business Administration in the first class and participated in various activities both inside and outside the school, and participated in Professor Lee Eun-joo's Neuromarketing Research Project for the first time to feel interest in marketing research. Let's listen to the story of alumnus Park Sung-joon, who is full of memories about the campus, enough to bring a smile to his face when he thinks of his alma mater. 1. Hello, nice to meet you. Please introduce yourself and the field you are currently researching. Hello, I am Park Sung-joon, a graduate of the class of 2008 in the 1st class of global business administration. Immediately after graduating from the undergraduate department, I went to the graduate course of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST) and got a Ph.D. in business engineering. Since then, I gained practical experience in the marketing strategy team of Samsung Electronics' memory division and is currently working as an assistant professor of business administration at National Political University in Taipei, Taiwan. As lecture subjects, Marketing Management and Market Research subjects are taught to undergraduate and MBA students, and Quant Research Method and Marketing Seminar classes are taught as doctoral courses. 2. I heard that you are a professor of marketing at National Chengchi University. I'm curious about the process of getting hired. Please explain the reason and process for applying. When I was in graduate school, I had the opportunity to pass the PhD qualification exam and give lectures at the university. I felt the significance of meeting with students and delivering knowledge, but I felt the limitation of teaching business administration without practical experience. Therefore, I joined Samsung Electronics to gains practical experience after completing my Ph.D. Although I was interested in experiencing living knowledge through practical experience, I challenged the appointment of a professor at a foreign university to realize my dream of becoming an educator. I am currently an assistant professor of business administration at the National University of Politics in Taipei for the fourth year, and I have spent every class preparing for lectures precious and meaningful because I can meet the best students in Taiwan. 3. Until recently, there must have been a lot of disruptions in lectures due to COVID-19. How did you overcome it tin the class? My teaching method is experiential learning through experience and discussion-oriented class to find answers to questions. Online lectures due to COVID-19 were not easy at first, but I sought opportunities to communicate with students by doing offline classes in parallel. In addition, we created a virtual online market and applied marketing techniques that students learned in class to promote their products directly to consumers and create sales. We conducted a project-type class focusing on developing problem-solving skills by learners themselves. Through regular offline meetings, we experienced the process of creating new knowledge by colliding with flashes of knowledge through time to think about students's concerns and questions together. 4. What are some of the most memorable activities you participated in during your undergraduate days? I entered the first class of GBA in the class of 2008, so most of the department activities were unprecedented early attempts. The most memorable school activity was the GBA Prayer Meeting that I created with my Christian colleagues. We met regularly, talked about the Bible, and prayed for the campus together. It was a special meeting because I was able to learn how to illuminate the direction of life and explore the truth through the Bible during my college life. I still keep in touch with the friends I met at the time, and it is an important part of my undergraduate life. It is a also a meaningful in-school activity called Undergraduate Research Program. At that time, I participated in Professor Lee Eun-joo's Neuro Marketing Research Project for the first time and felt interest in marketing research, and now it is an activity that become the first stepping stone for me to grow into a marketing researcher. I am always grateful to my teacher for letting me know my favorite field by experiencing various activities. The research activities I participated in during my undergraduate years played a major role in my career decision, so I am currently selecting a number of undergraduate research assistants to provide student with an opportunity to experience research. One of the most memorable suburban activities is the Cheil Worldwide Marketing Contest I participated in when I was an undergraduate. At that time, I worked with three colleagues in the seminar room of the International Pavilion until late at night for a few weeks to build a Samsung Electronics mobile campaign strategy and win a silver award. It was a valuable opportunity to experience how the knowledge I learned in my undergraduate years was used in practice, along with sharp evaluations by working-level officials at the time. It is also an impressive suburban activity that I have worked with MIT Media Lab graduate students in the United States. We explored the needs from the perspective of consumers using digital technology and explored how to derive service design. Since then, we have created a controller model for IoT services that can control multiple digital products at once, and we have an opportunity to display our products in Daehak-ro. Through conversations with Ph.D. students at that time, I became more confident in my career path to graduate school. 5. If you have any research results published by the conference or papers published in famous journals, please introduce them together. I'm interested in the marketing phenomenon that occurs at the point where consumers and digital technologies meet. For example, when a mobile advertisement is presented, the consumer encounters the advertisement through a mobile app or website. A study comparing the effectiveness of mobile's two advertising paths is published in the Journal of Advertising Research(SSCI) in 2020. In addition, a study was published in the journal Psychology & Marketing(SSCI) in 2021 that looked at how different technology acceptance process occurred in hospitals and restaurants when consumers received services through artificial intelligence(AI) humanoid robots. A recent study using text-mining technique to analyze reviews left by consumers on websites and comparing online service evaluation according to language use between a group that uses English as a native language and a group that uses English as a second language was recently published in the Journal of Services Marketing(SSCI) jorunal. 6. Please tell me about your future research plan. I am interested in future marketing research using digital technology. Recently, we are conducting a meta study to analyze big data literature on AI chatbot services. In addition, I would like to conduct research on human creativity and emotions based on the use of AI technology in the mid to long term. I would like to theoretically study how consumers react cognitively and experience emotionally when dealing with new technologies. Through this, I would like to scientifically explore consumer needs and present practical implications linked to corporate sales. 7. If you have a chance to visit your alma mater, where do you want to go the most? When I think of my alma mater, I naturally draw a smile. I think it's because we made a lot of memories together when we were young on campus. If I visit my alma mater, I would like to visit the seminar room of the International Hall. When I was in the first grade, the International Hall was not yet completed, and all classes were held in the International Hall from the second grade. I think I spent a long time living in the seminar room of the International Hall. Especially when I was in the third grade, I remember my teammates staying up all night preparing for the I-core project. Also, I want to go to a snack bar located at the side door of the library. I put a note on the wall with my colleagues on the post-it, but I'm not sure if it still exists.^^ 8. Lastly, please tell me what you want to say or give advice to your juniors at Sungkyunkwan University's business school. If you stop trying and give up, you won't be able to reap the fruits of your harvest. I'm sure you're afraid and worried because your career after graduation is your first time, but I think you can take on challenges in the future because your expectations and hopes coexist. Rather than worrying too much about the uncertain future, I encourage you to become juniors who are trying and moving forward little by little.

, he said, "Samsung offers relatively more training opportunities to employees than other companies. For example, they hire English teachers for employees traveling abroad and provide training on non-verbal communication or storytelling techniques. Samsung;s biggest strength and asset lies in its large R&D spending. This expenditure of R&D costs reminds employees that Samsung continues to develop and is not a company that repeats what it has been doing." About how are younger generational cohort of workers transforming office culture, he said, "After the pandemic, many large companies' flexibility has changed. You can adjust your commuting time flexibly, and you can go exercise in the evening. In addition, in the case of corporate Kakao, executives and employees use English nicknames to call each other. This is useful to ease the hierarchy at work and provide a comfortable working atmosphere for employees by using horizontal English rather than relatively hierarchical Korean."
