Q1. Hello. Professor, congratulations on being selected for the 2023 SKKU Teaching Award. Please share your thoughts.
Hello, thank you for your congratulations. It has been four years since I took up my position at Sungkyunkwan University. There have been many difficulties in the meantime, such as conducting fully online classes due to COVID-19, but I think I have come this far safely thanks to the support of the school, the help of fellow professors, and the cooperation of students. Recently, I have been reflecting on what I can do to improve my teaching, and while I am very honored to receive the SKKU Teaching Award, I also feel a great sense of responsibility. In the future, I will put more thought and effort into providing greater inspiration and resonance to students beyond simply conveying knowledge. Thank you.
Q2. I'm curious about the ongoing research. Or please introduce the areas you are interested in.
I have mainly conducted research on corporate finance, and my main area of interest is the relationship between corporate value and investment in various intangible assets of companies, such as ESG, technological innovation, and corporate culture. I am currently working hard to discover interesting research topics such as the relationship between ESG and the global supply chain.

Q3. What is the secret to winning the 2023 SKKU Teaching Award this time?
Rather than having a special secret, I think the fact that I tried to communicate smoothly with students worked well. For example, my policy of responding to student e-mail inquiries within 24 hours has been followed with almost no exceptions. I have been continuously conducting face-to-face consultations and counseling through Zoom when requested. It seems that students feel secure just by the fact that the channel of communication with the professor is always open. I think this had the effect of increasing overall satisfaction with the class.
Q4. Was there an episode that impressed you the most during your professor’s class?
I conducted a kind of experiment because I wanted to conduct a new type of class for first graders. It was about information asymmetry, and students were asked to auction items that were packaged invisibly. I was worried about what would happen if participation was low, but the bid price rose faster than I expected and quickly rose to a higher price than I expected. In the end, wireless headphones worth 180,000 won in the box were sold at a higher price than I expected, so I remember being a little embarrassed. In the second auction, which was held after the identity of the first item was revealed, there were a lot of bubbles as intended, and a 3,500 won note was sold for a whopping 500,000 won (both people received the product as a gift without paying any money). I think the concept was communicated effectively and the students responded well, so I hope to create more unique learning opportunities in the future.
Q5. What are your future research plans?
As I mentioned earlier, I have focused on researching the impact of investment in intangible assets such as corporate social responsibility, ESG, innovative technology and its intellectual property rights, and corporate culture on corporate value. In the 21st century, the proportion of intangible assets rather than tangible assets in a company's total assets is gradually increasing worldwide, and this trend is expected to intensify in the future. Therefore, it was judged that research on investment in intangible assets of companies and changes in corporate value accordingly is important, and I will continue to research related fields.
Q6. Lastly, please give a word to business school students.
I think I was able to receive the prestigious Teaching Award thanks to the students who worked hard and created good classes together. I am also carefully reading each and every honest and witty course evaluation feedback. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the students. In addition to academic studies, our students are very busy studying for certifications and preparing for employment. In the meantime, I hope that they will not miss out on the various experiences that can only be enjoyed within the walls of the university. Thank you
