Sungkyunkwan University's College of Business is discovering and supporting creative students with comprehensive thinking, not just excellent grades, with the aim of discovering the role of first mover and role model for student success. Students who actively help various in-school activities and Sunkyunkwan communities or have made challenging research and learning plans and achievements are selected as creative scholarships and scholarships are awarded.
Choi Yeon-su received several excellent grades scholarships during her undergraduate years, and she developed her skills by selecting classes such as presentation, cooperation, and discussion, which are areas she could do well. She also participated in various external activities such as English discussion competitions and lectures through English discussion clubs, and multiple majors in cognitive science through self-design convergence majors. Let's listen to Choi Yeon-su, who is currently preparing to study in the U.S. and wants to try to start a business if she has a chance.

1. Hello, pleas introduce yourself first.
Hello! I'm Choi Yeon-su, a business administration major who graduated last summer. To briefly introduce myself, I am interested in various studies and my hobbies are cooking, discussing, and writing. I've been able to feel a lot and grow more through various activities over the past four years, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to share these with my business school classmates, and I hope my interview will be of any help!
2. I heard that you won the Student Success Award-Dean Award at the 2021 degree conference. Please give us a brief acceptance speech.
I'm very honored to receive a meaningful award given to only one person at the business school. In particular, I heard that the professors reviewed it themselves, and I sincerely thank you for highly evaluating my past activities and visions. Thanks to this, I will continue to be progressive student in achieving my goals.

3. You have been engaged in various internal and external activities such as English discussion clubs and double majors in self-design convergence majors, so please introduce the activities you have done so far. Additionally, please introduce the most memorable activities.
I have been engaged in various activities for four years in college, and representative activities include participation in English discussion clubs, participation in various lectures, multiple majors in cognitive science through self-design convergence, and in-depth research through two excellent undergraduate research credit systems.
First of all, I was able to think logically about various topics and practice expressing my arguments convincingly in English through SKEDA, an English discussion club in the second grade. Also, through this experience, I was able to not only improve my English skills but also broaden my perspective. In particular, it was a valuable experience to establish various perspectives on social important topics because I had to consider the validity of my arguments and give appropriate opinions. Furthermore, I learned about the Seoul Open English Discussion Competition through SKEDA, and I was able to participate in the Seoul Open English Discussion Competition to achieve positive result as a Finalist. As the Seoul Open is a big competition involving foreign students, it seems most meaningful that we were able to actively interact with each other while discussing in English with various foreign university students from around the world.
Next, I participated in various academic events and lectures provided by Sungkyunkwan University. If you go to the school bulletin board, Sungkyunkawn University invites experts from various fields to give lectures, and I often listened to lectures at school when lectures on topics of interest were held. While listening to lectures by various experts such as management, psychology, science, and philosophy, the best thing was that I was able to face new questions and think about them. Listening to various lectures, I became interested in the field of cognitive science, and I hope that business school students can expand their interests by listening to various lectures held at school.
After listening to various lectures, I became interested in the field of cognitive science that studies the human brain and mind. Therefore, I wanted to study more in the undergraduate class, but I was personally very sorry that there was no department called cognitive science at Sungkyunkwan University. However, as part of convergence education, there was a self-design convergence major system provided by Sungkyunkwan University, so fortunately, I was able to major in cognitive science twice through this. Since the self-design convergence major supports students to design their own departments and curricula, if the field of interest is not a convergence study that has not been opened as a department, it would be good to consider multiple majors.
In fact, I have done various activities, but the most memorable activity among them was the experience of participating in the excellent undergraduate research credit system. With the approval of the professor, the credit system for excellent undergraduate student is a program that allows you to conduct in-depth individual research on the field you are interested in and be recognized as credits for a semester. Of course, the research credit system is mainly conducted by the College of Natural Sciences, but I participated in research in the fields of natural science and philosophy once each. I mainly explored the "liberation and determinism" that I was interested in, and it seems to be the most memorable because it was a rare opportunity to conduct in-depth research beyond the undergraduate level on one subject.

4. You received several excellent grades scholarships when you were an undergraduate, do you have your own secret?
In fact, rather than having my own secret, I was lucky to continue to perform well because I took classes that I was really interested in and passionate about. Good grades are based on someone's evaluation, so I don't think your skills and efforts alone guarantee good results. I also plan to get a certain grade in each subject before the start of the semester, but it doesn't always go my way, so I then to consider what I want to get in each subject.
For example, I think presentation, cooperation, and discussion skills are very important, so I set my goal to develop those skills further in undergraduate classes. Therefore, I tried to improve my presentation and discussion skills by taking classes with a lot of presentations and discussions and interacting with various people. In particular, in the case of business administration classes, there are many presentations and teaming classes, so I tried to use them as an opportunity to further develop what I personally wanted to improve while taking those classes. Then, I think the efforts to show and improve a lot of moles in undergraduate classes probably helped me get good results.

5. What are your future careers and goals?
It's not decided yet, but I'm currently preparing to study in the U.S. because I want to study more about cognitive science and philosophy that I'm interested in. Also, while studying business administration for the past four years, I have a big goal of becoming interested in startups and trying to start a business if I have a chance later.
6. Lastly, please give advice to your classmates at the business school.
Lastly, when I was a college student, I had a lot of thoughts about my college life and future, and I would like to briefly convey what I felt through my college life to my juniors who will have similar concerns. When I talk to my juniors, many students feel pressure to achieve a lot of results during college students, and I think they are thinking a lot about how to do well in college life. To be honest, I don't think there's a manual for "good college life". It would be nice to be able to prove myself to the world through many achievements, but I think the most important thing is to think more deeply about who I am during my college life and to have time to discover myself through various experiences. There are many opportunities and changes in the world, but if you lack an understanding of yourself, I think it is difficult to use it correctly and live the life you want.
However, it it true that getting to know yourself and pursuing your goals without wavering are not as easy as they sound. To do this, you need a chance to experience various things. Of course, you can't easily create some opportunities, but it's not like you don't have any opportunities around you. You can experience various things through the school bulletin board and ask for advice from seniors or professors. It's good to be able to achieve what you want through the opportunity you have in your hands, but even if you don't, I hope you can create opportunities to achieve what you want! I hope my interview was of any help to my business school classmates.
