1. Hello, It's so nice to meet you like this. Please introduce yourself first.
Hello, I'm Hong Si-woon majoring in accounting. I conducted a study on the effect of information on the temporary difference between accounting profit and tax profit on accounting profit, and I was in charge of a number of classes such as accounting principles, intermediate accounting, and cost accounting.
2. I heard that you got a job at the National Tax Service Education Center. Congratulations ^^. It's a bit unfamiliar. Please introduce the National Tax Service Education Center.
The National Tax Service Education Center is a professional education and training institution that strengthens the professional capabilities of national tax officials belonging to the National Tax Service. Education is conducted around new civil service appointees and incumbent officials in a way that combines theory and practice so that they can be directly linked to job performance.
3. What kind of work you do here? Please explain why you applied to the National Tax Service Education Center and the employment process.
My main job at the National Tax Service Education Center is to give lectures and write textbooks for new hires and incumbents in the 9th and 7th grades. In the faculty, there's a form of teaching that conveys accounting theory, whereas in the education center, there's an education that's needed by the people in charge of the job. Through this education, it plays a role in helping direct business connections.
I worked as a tax accountant before entering the Ph.D. program. I thought that it would be helpful to strengthen the professional competence of national tax officials if the class was conducted by adding the theoretical knowledge of accounting and practical cases learned while working as a tax accountant. In the past, I had many opportunities to contact tax officials while working as a tax accountant, so I understood to some extent what the National Tax Service organization was doing, and I thought there would be something I could do for them, so I applied to the National Tax Service Education Center.
Interviews related to demonstration lectures were especially difficult in the job process. It was important to appeal how to prepare for a practical lecture. After obtaining my doctorate, I took accounting principles, intermediate accounting, and advanced accounting classes, and I emphasized that I have the ability to teach accounting theory with many experiences such as coat accounting and tax accounting, and I give practical lectures based on my past experience as a tax accountant.
4. Did you have any difficulties in preparing for employment?
All students preparing for employment will have difficulty in the job preparation process, since they have not done the job directly, it will be difficult to determine in what way to prepare for the interview. I also have a number of accounting lectures and practical experience, but I had some difficulties because it was difficult to grasp the level of accounting required by various national tax officials. So I found out what kind of accounting knowledge I need in practice through my current acquaintances, and I searched various news recently to find out what important topics are in practice. I was able to solve the difficulties by showing in a pilot lecture how to account for practical cases based on this data investigation.
5. What are your future plans and goals?
Until now, I have mainly been in charge of undergraduate classes and focused on accounting theory, but I think I will be focusing on practice in the future. Since accounting is a very close study to practice, I think the more experience I have in practical lectures, the deeper I can understood accounting. It will be an opportunity to make up for the shortcomings. In addition, I think it will help to expand the scope of my research to influence more policy areas in my reserach field, which deals with the relationship between tax and accounting.
6. What does "national tax official" mean to you? Lastly, please give advice to business school students and master's and doctorate students preparing for national tax officials.
National tax officials play an important role in securing national finances by allowing them to fulfill their tax obligations, one of the duties of the people. So national tax officials can take pride in having expertise in tax law. For students who want to realize value such as mission, professionalism, and public interest for their country, I think a national tax official can come as a pretty good job. In order to prepare for national tax officials, it would be good to make sure that the values such as mission, expertise, and public interest mentioned above are suitable for your tendency and prepare for them.
