On March 11th Sang-Im Kim, executive director of CJ Foodville, provided a special lecture for the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program. Ms. Kim began the lecture by asking various kinds of leading questions related to CJ Foodville. CJ Foodville is one of Korea`s leading food-service industry companies. Since branching off from the Food and Dining Division of CJ Corp. in July 2000, CJ Foodville has become the largest restaurant company in Korea and runs the restaurant business brands SkyLark, VIPS, Hancook, A Twosome Place, China Factory, Czen, Sweetree, After the Rain, Cafe Sobahn, After the Rain Bangkok9, n-GRILL, Seafood Ocean, and Cold Stone Creamery. As a compound word of ‘food’ and ‘village’, CJ Foodville conveys the image of a family restaurant where everyone can enjoy meals in a comfortable and relaxing environment as if dining with the family and neighbors of a small village.
Ms. Kim introduced some of the current brands owned by CJ FoodVille. She stressed that A Twosome Place is a domestic coffee brand which competes with well-known foreign brands abroad without paying any royalty. Cafe Sobahn was developed for the world market and each store is decorated with a modern and stylish New York–style atmosphere. Ms. Kim described the uniqueness of affiliates and on the key success factors of the food and dining service industry.
Ms. Kim said that there are 5 essential success factors for the food and dining service industry. These are commodity, location, service management, and marketing. She also said that these factors should be differentiated for competitiveness in order to earn customer satisfaction.
