As you work, you can meet colleagues who get particularly good reputations at work. They understand work quickly, not only finish the task with speed and accuracy, but also may suggest new ideas. They can command foreign languages, work with sincerity and also have time for self-development. Their personalities are well adjusted, so they get along easily with colleagues. Bosses also like them. Is it ideal to have such well-rounded ability? Maybe not. If the person is a trained person of talent who has accumulated diverse knowledge and experiences since university, it will be no difficulty. In addition, when companies find such talented people, they will not only try to hire them, but also try to endow them with more responsibility and authority.
HanKyung Business chose 8 criteria based on company standards (based on company complaints on the scarcity of competent individuals for hire) for assessing outstanding individuals. Looking at the results of the survey, graduates of Korea University were characterized as ‘well-trained, talented individuals’ at work.
Korea University (6) ranked first and Yonsei University (2) ranked second from totals of the 8 criteria. Korea University took first place in the six criteria of work adaptation ability, organizational harmony, potential for development, recommendability, sincerity and responsibility, and preference for new employees. Korea University took the first or second place in all 8 areas.
SNU held no 1st place rankings
The 2 indicators that Yonsei University ranked first were creative task solutions and internationalization system. Yonsei University won 2nd place in 4 areas, and stayed within 3rd place except in the area of organizational harmony in which it placed 4th. Yonsei University showed the possibility to turn the table later on and is chasing after Korea University closely.
SNU took no 1st place ranking in any of the 8 areas. It only placed third in 5 fields. In the areas of possibility of development, sincerity and responsibility, organizational harmony, SNU took 4th, 6th and 9th places, respectively. This indicated that high admission grades do not necessarily lead to great careers. SKKU attracted attention with its accomplishment. SKKU stayed in the top five for all 8 sections. In organizational harmony and sincerity and responsibility, in particular, SKKU is only second to Korea University.
Sogang University placed in the top 5 in 5 areas, 4th place for two, 6th for one. Hanyang University, except taking 3rd place in organizational harmony, evenly spread ranking 5th and 6th in the rest of the areas.
Cut throat competition between Chung Ang University and Kyung Hee University over 7th and 8th places has become a matter of great interest. Overall, CAU (7th) is superior to Kyung Hee University (8th), but the rankings were close in most areas.
Considering universities outside Seoul, Pusan National University placed in the top 10 in all 8 areas, and settled down as the best business school among local colleges. Kyung Pook University followed Pusan National listed in the top 10 in four sections.
Ewha Woman’s University, which ranked in the top 10 under 4 areas out of 7 last year, was somewhat poor, barely ranking No.10 in creative task solution and recommendability areas.
In total, the 9 universities that ranked in the top 10 in all 8 sectors are Korea, Yonsei, Seoul National, SKKU, Sogang, Hanyang, Chung Ang, Kyung Hee and Pusan National. These universities ranked first to ninth in the overall rankings.
To look at each section, under work adaptation ability, Korea University scored 731, surpassing 2nd ranked Yonsei University by 52 points. 30 companies gave Korea University 1st place (10 points), which exceeded SNU (21 companies), SKKU (13), and Yonsei (12) by a wide margin. Yonsei University was pushed back by SNU and SKKU from getting full points, but most companies gave it the second best score (9 points). As a result, Yonsei University could place 2nd in this section.
Under organizational harmony, 46 companies gave full marks to Korea University. Also, the rise of SKKU was noticeable. Even though it showed large gap of 235 points with Korea University, SKKU received the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best points, ranking No.2. Hanyang University got good scores here as well, earning 482 points, ranking No.3. Yonsei University lagged behind in this field compared to other sectors, and ranked No.4. Pusan and Kyung Pook Universities achieved the 7th and 8th places, respectively.
To the question of possibility of development, Korea University took 1st place, but SNU actually received the highest number for full marks from 23 companies. Korea came up to 1st place with the help of 2nd and 3rd highest scores, and SNU ranked 4th. SKKU unexpectedly beat SNU and ranked 3rd.
