- The life of a wise Sungkyunkwan Business person in handling COVID-19 - We are responsible for the safety of our place!
-
Although COVID-19 continues to make a sad situation around the world, all members of the business school are doing their best in their respective positions to ensure that the first semester of the 2020 school year is going smoothly while putting safety first. We wish the end of COVID-19 coming within a short period of time so that all business school families can meet in a healthy way on campus. Today, I met a person in charge of safety on the first floor of the management center. Though outsiders were abandoned from entering schools and management centers due to COVID-19, strict management is required as professors, faculty members, some students and workers go to the management office every day. I met with the manager in charge of the safety of the management center until the whole situation stabilized and the semester began, and I put a message of support.
Entering the first floor of the management center, we can meet a friendly greeting from the man. He is the one who measures body temperature. Due to COVID-19, outsiders must fill out their personal information and measure their body temperature to enter. It is strictly controlled to take responsibility for the health of all faculties and students in management office. The school is responsible for the safety of all those who enter and exit the management center, including professors filming online lectures, some students and staffs, and workers that clean the management office. "I'm not just measuring body temperature, also acting as a guide of here. We are handling all small complaints as well as location information. Currently, outsiders are prohibited from entering the area, so I feel sorry when I have to send back those who come from afar. However, we kindly explain the situation and ask for your cooperation. I hope things calm down as soon as possible and get back to normal." “In the beginning, it was difficult to check the temperature and personal information. It's a first time to all people and it feels strange... But thank you for your active cooperation now. We will do our best to ensure everyone's safety." He is a thankful person who protects our safety facing the beginning and end of the day at the management center. If we meet on the first floor of the management office, why don't we thank them? -

- The Life of a Wise Sungkyunkwan Business person in Handling COVID-19_A Student Interview with Han Joo-eun
- Along with the warm weather, a summer came to Sungkyunkwan University's Humanities and Social Sciences Campus. Although the situation continues to be unfortunate around the world due to the COVID-19, all members of the business school are doing their best to ensure that the first semester of the 2020 school year is going smoothly while putting safety first. I hope that the COVID-19 will be over soon, so that all business school members can meet in good health on campus. Today, I met with Han Ju Eun, a business student who is watching an online lecture because of the postponement of the opening of the class due to COVID-19. Our university has decided to conduct online lectures for the health and safety of all students until the end of COVID-19. It was unfamiliar at first but gradually settled down, and the first semester has already passed. Let's hear how our students are spending their time with COVID-19. Q. Nice to meet you. Please introduce yourself. Hello! I am Han Ju Eun, Department of Business Administration Class of 17.^^ Q. All lectures are conducted online, what are the merits and demerits of taking online lectures? I think the biggest advantage of online lectures is that you can watch them until you understand them! Offline lectures are lively and it’s much better to interact with professors and students, but in online lectures, you can listen to the parts I don't know 100 times. And it has the advantage of being able to move on quickly to what you already know or understand. In addition, the flexibility to take classes whenever possible is also an advantage. (Except for real-time classes) I think I can take classes in the best condition through online lectures because there can be situations where I'm not suitable for studying, such as having an emergency or getting tired! However, sometimes there’s an acoustic problem or a technical problem. But most of the problems seem to be fixed quickly, so l’ve never felt very uncomfortable. (except for server down on Sunday^^ I almost had a heart attack…). Still, I use online lectures well because school keeps managing servers and uploading system! Q. Do you have any online lectures you remember? The most memorable online lecture is a real-time streaming lecture! The professor played with words in real time, and I laughed out loud at the café alone. If it was a normal class, I would laugh lightly, but am I the only one who finds it more interesting because I'm online? In addition, interacting with students and professors through real-time lectures was interesting and fun! The friends watching through the video were new, too! I think there was a little fun in class because of my classmates who used to turn on the microphone sometimes. Q. In the case of the team project, how did you proceed with the assignment? The professors in my class have actively used online lecture tools! In the case of real-time classes using ZOOM, the large class was able to have a small group of four people for real-time meetings! In other classes, each group has a meeting on the topic of discussion before the real-time class, and during the class, the representative present it during the class. Most of the classes were organized neatly, so there was no difficult with the team project! Q. What do you want to do after COVID-19? It’s getting hot all of a sudden(T.T) If COVID-19 ends as soon as possible, I would like to go swimming with my friends on a hot day. I wanted to enjoy my last school life as a graduating senior, but I couldn't. Therefore, In the second semester, I hope you can face many school events that you couldn't do in the first semester! Q. Lastly, please say a word to all members of the business school who is overcoming COVID-19. Our wonderful SKK business members, I’m sure you’re all enjoying your life own places even in the COVID19 situation! Let’s be a little more careful and cheer up! We are a wonderful SKK business member who has overcome this adversity. I’ll see you on campus in the second semester with a lot of fun after overcoming the tough situation^_^

- [Interview] Han Won-Hyung, the 20th president of business school student council
- Han Won-Hyung (Business 17) was elected as the president of the 2020 School of Business student council. She felt that there were good people around her, that feeling mad her more affectionate, and she decided to return it to her mates, so she ran into election. We met her, who is currently communicating with students online due to COVID19, and listened to the student council, business and future plans introduction. Q1. Hello! It’s so nice to meet you like this! Please let me introduce about yourself and ’biz, your’. Hi! I’m Han-Won-Hyung, 20th Business School student council. Nice to see you guys. ‘biz, your’ means to look from the perspective of business students. We have 26 executive members and consists of the Secretary General’s Bureau, the Culture Planning Bureau, the Communication Bureau, the Policy Bureau and the Audit Office. Q2. Is there special motive making you decide to run for election? The beginning of my love interest in Sungkyunkwan University is my business school classmates. I felt that there were good people around me, and I wanted to return more than I had received from my mates. To this end, I thought that I should be able to improve the satisfaction of school life by supplementing the inconveniences of my mates. Therefore, I ran for the student council, pledging to create a more satisfying school life for my mates. Q3. Introduce about biz, your‘s projects and what is the point? I’ll tell you just a few of the projects we’re working on. We’re working on projects like Protection of original major students/Open the classroom during the exam term/New barrier-free zone in the classroom/Professor mentoring system by major in detail. Q4. What do you think is the most important thing in leading the student council? Internally, we value harmony with the executive members. Because I think that the more harmonious student council, the more affectionate they can serve for the business school. Although we haven't been able to meet recently due to the coronavirus-19, we're working hard to create a stronger bond by planning online content through online meetings. Externally, the most important goal that the student council should pursue is to bring development to the school life of its classmates. In order to be satisfied with school life, we need to make changes, so we are carefully preparing even the smallest details for each event we are proceeding. Q5. I think there will be difficulties with student council activities due to COVID19. What are your plans for the future? First of all, I'm going to try what I can do in the current situation. For example, in the case of snack event, we plan to go online so that as many students as possible can participate. In addition, we are planning events that our classmates can often participate in online. Also, we are working hard to prepare projects that have been postponed since the opening of offline classes for the second semester in advance and show better events to our classmates. Q6. What is the last thing you want to say to your school and classmates? The COVID19 is causing chaos both inside and outside the school. I sincerely thank all the people who work hard for the school even in this difficult time. From now on, we will also try to help our school. Also, I think there will be a lot of students who will be frustrated by the online opening. As such, we will always thinking about making our second semester more colorful and satisfying. I hope all of you will be healthy in the second semester :)

Q7. Is there any comment to SKK Business School students? Whenever I talk to students, they seem to have a lot of fear of “challenge” whatever it is. ‘I know about necessity of internship, but am I possible with my specs? That company? That position?’ Students restrict their possibility before start something. However, I felt sorry whenever I saw loss of their opportunity without even trying. Regardless of the result, the challenge itself is very meaningful, and although the result can be bad and you can experience failure, the process of challenging itself is a great experience, a lesson, and a failure. And it can lead to a better future, so I hope you don't be afraid of challenges. -

[Special Feature] "Experience various things and dream various dreams"
- From the second semester of 2019 to this year, We appointed 5 new professors. SKK Business School has been toughened education & searching ability, which is our core value, through appointing good teachers. We talk about our new family's main researching, major and future plans. First, let us introduce 'Professor Oh Jong Min, Finance part'. Q1. Hello, Professor. Nice to meet you! Please introduce yourself. Hello. My name is Oh Jong Min, and I had been worked in SKK Business School finance part since last-second semester. Differentiate from other professors, I think I have an unusual career. First, I studied law in an undergraduate degree. And after graduating from university, I started my first career in Korea Bank, which is our country's central bank, not in legal circles. It's a bit unusual. While I worked on Korea Bank with a sense of duty to contribute to the monetary credit policy and financial stability of our country, I had got an academic passion for 'Finance', so I quit my job and entered a Business Ph.D course in USA. And after getting a Doctor degree I worked as an assistant professor in the University of Central Florida Business School and came back to SKKU last summer. I think I've had a turbulent 30s. Q2. Could you introduce your major and why did you choose your major? My major is Finance. The finance part is consists of Asset Pricing, Investment and Corporate Finance. Asset pricing or investment theory is an area that individual investors are concerned with how stocks, bonds, derivatives, etc. are priced, and how a variety of financial instruments are designed based on this basis. Corporate finance is an area that deals with a variety of corporate decisions, from a financial perspective, including how to raise capital in the capital markets of stocks and bond markets, and how much to invest in and how much to return to shareholders based on that. Despite my law degree, I was able to earn my Ph.D. in finance, which requires a lot of math and become a professor because of my first job. The first place I was assigned by the Bank of Korea was ‘The Risk Analysis Team of the Financial Stability Analysis Agency’. The team is responsible for checking the stability of the financial system across the national economy by monitoring the risks of financial institutions. Of course, I needed to know about risk management of the financial institution and also know about the whole thing across ‘finance’. But as a law major, I don’t have any knowledge about it, so I feel hard to adopt my team. At that time, one of my team managers taught me with a risk management textbook every lunch break and finally I can acquire The Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification which is internationally recognized. As I got to know more and more, I realized that it was a very interesting study, and finally I changed my major, went to study abroad and came here today. Q3. Please tell us how you feel about starting anew here and how you plan for the future? First, It’s a great honor to be a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, which has a great history. My impression that I came to Korea after a semester while teaching in the U.S. is that Korean university students have great talent and passion that can be presented anywhere. I’ll try to teach and support them with all of my experiences and knowledge so that students can freely spread their dreams in society, even in a wider world stage, after graduation. Q4. Could you introduce your class? Currently, I teach Finance Management in 1st semester and Investment Theory in 2nd semester. Of course, I teach Finance Management this semester. From this class, students can learn very basic concepts to understand finance It feels boring for them, but once they study hard about it, they will get basic concepts that should assist their job after graduation. Through this class, I will try to teach our students the basis for understanding and looking at current situations from a critical point of view when they read our daily life newspapers or major overseas newspapers such as Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, instead of simply focusing on memorizing theories and scoring scores. Q5. What is your future researching plan? I’ve been focused on the impact of intangible assets such as corporate social responsibility, technological innovation, and intellectual property rights on corporate value. In the 21st century, intangible assets such as land, building are increasingly taking up more and more of the company’s total assets rather than tangible assets, and this trend will intensify in the future. So I decided it is important to study corporate investment on intangible assets and the resulting changes in corporate value, and I intend to continue to study related areas. Q6. What is the ideal image of the educator? I think a good educator can effectively communicate knowledge to students and also can share useful experiences of life. First, students who paid an expensive fee for classes is a special customer of school, so we must provide a clear and useful lecture that satisfying students. In today’s world of Internet development, students can easily learn the knowledge they want for free(or at a small cost) Therefore, an ideal educator has a duty to make students feeling academic fulfillment at the end of the semester, not just let them fulfill credits. As a professor, I believe that students will show their passion if I teach them passionately whole class time. This is the first virtue of an ideal educator. As a senior, Ideal educator not just communicate knowledge to students, but also share and advise about their career. They need mentors who tell that there are so many ways to reach their dreams and give them practical and helpful advice. If I could have been more proactive in asking professors for advice when I was a college student, I would have made life choices more comfortable. Fortunately, here SKKU is so many professors who resembled that ideal image. Our professors always ready to give useful advice for students’ s career. If you have any concerns about your career of life, regardless of your major or class or specs, I hope you can knock on the door of the professors, including me, without hesitation. Q7. Is there any comment to SKK Business School students? These days, it’s getting harder for students to get a job. So, because they spend all their time and energy building up so-called “specs” for getting a job while they’re in school, I think they don’t have enough time to make serious consideration and reflection on what they really want and want to be. They can’t afford to think more seriously about their career, such as the fact that there are many ways to be successful and what’s the right way for them in various ways. Now the age of 100, Life is long for us. Also, their many different ways to achieve success. Therefore, if you have the passion to challenge something new, it’s never too late to try it out and decide your way. Your current major in college is by no means determining your future life. If you have the courage and energy to learn new things, you will be able to build and learn many experiences and live a meaningful life. The most important thing is passion. Various experiences in a long life will be your big assets if you can just devote your passion to everything, whether it’s playing, studying, or hobby. I have no doubt that if you decide on the path that you will go crazy for more than 10 years, you will grow faster than anyone else. Experience various things! Dream various dreams! That’s a true privilege of a college student. If you’re passionate about every moment, you’ll see yourself standing high at some point. I sincerely support your passion!

- Professor Kim Andrea intreview : Awarded as 2019 SKKU Young-Fellowship
- Since 2004, Sungkyunkwan University has hosted 'SKKU-Fellowship' that gives a research support and honor to professor by selecting professor who has world-class research or close-up level. Especially, '2019 SKKU-Fellowship' was selected based on the standard(numbers of paper citation, IF sums) so that proves the excellence and practicality of the research. Here's the interview with 2019 SKKU-Fellowship winner , Professor Kim Andrea. Q1. Introduce Yourself. Hello. My name is Kim Andrea, and I teach on human resources management undergraduates, master's and doctorate programs, and MBA students at SKK Business School. From this year on, I promote as a associate professor. Q2. Main Contents on research I'm researching human resource management with both macroscopic perspective and microscopic perspective. First, in macroscopic perspective, I'm researching how company's human resources or human resource management system can contribute to company's strategy implementation and the consequent improvement of management performance. How to organize human resources pool fits to company's strategy, or what is the best characteristics that fit well with the strategy or culture of company. Also, I'm looking at which human resource management system companies need to adopt and operate that secure human resources to help them implement strategies. In microscopic perspective, I'm researching what kind of human resource management system would be needed to guide individual members of the organization's attitude or behaviors or better performance. Finally, in addition to company's management performance, I'm studying social responsibilities of company, especially the role of individual(ex, voluntary eco-friendly actions), role of leaders&groups and human resource management system promote proenviromental performance. Q3. How do you feel about the winner of 2019 SKKU-Fellowship? It's a huge honor, but on the other hand, I'm ashamed. 'SKKU-Fellowship' selects the professor whose research got a world-class or close-up level. I think my passion and efforts to research are close up to that level, but my outputs are far away from that level. my. In my case, they appreciated my efforts. They gave me favors, so I'm going to do more and more and try close to the world-class level with my studying. Q4. Final goal as a Professor I want to inspire my colleagues and find new stream of research with my studying. Not just researches that help the companies, I want to do study that can benefit our society. Proenviromental performance of companies makes our world healthier and sustatinable, and also makes human being strong. Researching about what individual members of companies to do voluntary for proenviromental performance is a significant attempt. Also, just as POSCO and SK have recently asked their members to carry out tasks with social responsibility in mind to fulfill their social responsibilities as corporate citizens, there are some areas where managers must lead the organization. So, I want to push the research that helps Social responsible companies and their social vision achievement. Q5. Saying to our students Love yourself! Learning a lot in our school and get a lot of good inspiration from your colleagues. But, That's not enough. Think a lot about yourself during your 4 years of campus life. Don't think about the way other passed by. Think about where you could be. Although the way you chosen is uncertain, I hope you take the courage to challenge yourself. So you need to know yourself exactly and trust yourself. You only live once. Be a protagonist!
