- Mr. Seungil Lee, CEO of Pizza Hut Korea
- Mr. Seungil Lee, CEO of Pizza Hut Korea, provided a special lecture on May 12 as part of the Understanding Corporate Business with the CEO program. In his lecture, A Dream of 14-year-old boy: CEO of Multinational Corporation, Mr. Lee mentioned the management policy of Pizza Hut. He said, “In order to be a management specialist, one should be equipped with comprehensive knowledge in finance, marketing, and accounting. Priority should be fall into getting closer to the customers at anytime, anywhere and the right mind-set of corporate management is crucial.” Mr. Lee also mentioned recruitment criteria of multinational corporations like Pizza Hut: the one who has a right attitude, passion to learn, smooth communication skill with co-workers, unique individuality, and credible performance results. Mr. Lee earned his master degree in Business Administration from University of Michigan. Prior to joining Pizza Hut Korea as a CEO in 2008, Mr. Lee worked as an assistant at P&G, marketing manager at Citibank Korea, Asia regional marketing director at Pepsi-Cola International, CEO of Yahoo Korea in 2001, and as a executive director of Digital Media at Samsung in 2005.

- The ETS Scholarships ceremony was held onOctober 14 at the Shilla Hotel. is a nonprofit institutionadvancing quality educationthrough valid educational testing,curriculum development assets and testpreparation products. According to Ae-Ri Jang (SKKU GlobalBusiness Administration, sophomore), she started speaking English with hermother at home when she was 8 years old. She read English newspapers and orallysummarized articles in English while a middle school student. She also attributedher excellent communication skills to SKKU since all the courses in the SKKUGlobal Business Administration program are taught in English.

- Dean Rhee was interviewed by the Maeil Business Newspaper
- Dean Rhee was interviewed by the Maeil Business Newspaper on October 6th. He joined the faculty of theSungkyunkwan University (SKKU) as dean of the Business School in August 2008and has focused his leadership upon increasing school globalization andresearch investment. Dean Rhee envisions SKKU Business School ranking in the top 100 globally withinfive years, although he admits this is a very ambitious goal. He believes that othermajor universities in Asia, and not local universities, are SKKU’s majorcompetitors. Dean Rhee also reiterated that the Business School’s missionkeywords of globalization, leadership, and innovation are now shaping a newparadigm within the organization, adding that “SKKU Business School provides acompetitive state-of-the-art education infrastructure and a learningenvironment where the future global leaders devote themselves to learning andskills development.” As a part of his plans, Dean Rhee recruited one of Hawaii’s senior international lawyers and executive businesseducators, and business communications and is also teachingNegotiations and Doing Business in United States for the fall semester to Asia MBA program students. Dean Rhee said that SKKUBusiness School would continue to offer these and other cutting-edge courses toAsia MBA and undergraduate students while striving to provide similar practicalcoursework covering business in America. Dean Rhee has recentlypublished 10 articles that were cited in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), an interdisciplinary citation index product of Thomson Scientific. On compensation, DeanRhee remarked, “Given the university-wide fixed pay schedule, it is unrealisticto increase the base pay of the Business School faculty.” As a result, the dean has considered alternativeresearch incentives as a means of increasing the compensation of facultymembers. Dean Rhee plans for every faculty member to be entitled to receive a BusinessSchool research incentive for publication in top international and A-leveljournals. Owing to his effort, allprograms of the SKKU Business School and Graduate School of Business have beenofficially accredited for five years by the Association to Advance CollegiateSchool of Business (AACSB) International as of March 2009.

- Celebration of SKKU Business School 50th Anniversary was held on October 14th in the Dynasty Hall of the Shilla Hotel. The event was attended by a festive audience of over 850 that included Dr. Jung-Don Seo, president of Sungkyunkwan University, Dr. S. Ghon Rhee, dean of SKKU Business School, Mr. Byung-Doo Cho, honorary chairman of Sungkyunkwan University Alumni, Mr. Ik Lae Kim, chairman of Sungkyunkwan University Alumni, Mr. Seung-Kyu Kang and Mr. Jae-Gil Yang, chairman of EMBA Alumni Association, Mr. Ho-Suk Yang, chairman of W-AMP Alumni Association, Mr. Wan-Geun Lee, chairman of Sungkyunkwan University Whole Alumni Association and distinguished alumni of SKKU Business School. Prof. Hae-Dong Lee, Prof. Gwan-Soo Cho, Prof. Chang-Woo Cho, Prof. Yeong-Hwna Yang, Prof. Jung-Nam Kim, CEO Soon-Yeong Choi, CEO Byung-Doo Cho, CEO Soo-Sam Choi, CEO Yoon-shin Choi, CEO Hyun-Goo Lee were awarded for their excellent contributions in honor of celebration of SKKU Business School 50th anniversary. The Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony was in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration. At the ceremony, the SKKU Business School slogan, “Global top 50 through innovation”, expressing SKKU Business School’s aim of being ranked among the top 50 business schools globally was proclaimed. Generous contribution of 100 million KRW for the Business School’s development was made by SKKU faculty and a fascinating congratulatory performance was given by singer In Soon Yi.

- SKKU Business School held parents’ meeting
- A meeting with parents of students attending SKKU Business School was held on October 13 in the 600th Anniversary Building. Prof. Dong-Ok Chah, associate dean of SKKU Business School, presided over the event and attendees included Prof. S. Ghon Rhee, dean of SKKU Business School, Prof. Jong-Bom Chay, associate dean, and Prof. In-Man Song, chair of the Development Committee. This meeting was particularly meaningful in that Dean Susan W. Engelkemeyer of the University of Massachusetts also attended. Dean Rhee started with an introduction of the SKKU faculty and presented a video of the history and vision of Sungkyunkwan University. In the second session, the Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony was held and scholarships were conferred in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the SKKU Business School. - MOUs established with top universities in Thailand
- SKKU Business School is undergoing growth and globalization with the primary goal of being recognized as a prestigious school internationally. On October 7th, Dean Rhee visited the 3 top universities of Thailand including Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, and National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) Business School. Dean Rhee signed memorandum of understanding (MOUs) with representatives of each university to ensure future cooperation in education and student exchanges, faculty and academic publications and information.

- Special Lecture by President Chul-Woo Lee of Lotte Shopping
- A speciallecture by Chul-Woo Lee, president of Lotte Shopping, was delivered on October29, 2009. In his lecture, Prospects for the Distribution Industry in Korea and the Globalizationof Lotte Group, Mr. Lee focused on the future prospects and flow of the Koreanretail industry. He started his lecturewith a brief outline of the current distribution market followed by an explanationof the five comprehensive strategies that Lotte Shopping is currently undertaking. Lotte Shopping owns the country’s largestdepartment store chain and is an affiliated with Lotte Group, owner of LotteHotel. Mr. Lee received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in AgriculturalEconomics from Seoul National University and has been in charge of LotteDepartment Store as CEO since 2007. He received presidential citations in 2001and 2007. In 2002, he was awarded grand prize of Korea Marketing Frontier. Hewas named Korean Marketing CEO in 2009.

- Mr.Yong-Joo Kwon, who is currently studying in the EMBA program, donated 10million won for the development of SKKU Business School. He is a certified public accountant at Hyundai Accounting Consulting, and he is president of the BusinessAdministration Development Center. - CREDU donates scholarships
- Jae-KeunBae, CEO of CREDU, visited Prof. S.Ghon Rhee, dean of SKKU Business School, on November 5,2009. While having lunch together, Mr. Bae made a generous contribution of 5million won for the students of IMBA program. CREDU was selected as a first-grade agencyin the Internet Communications Training Agencies evaluation held by theMinistry of Labor in 2003. - Special Lecture by William Oberlin, President - Boeing International Corporation - Korea
- A special lecture by William Oberlin, President of Boeing International Corporation-Korea was delivered on November 12. Mr. Oberlin leads all of Boeing's company-wide initiatives in Korea. Prior to his current position, Oberlin was the Boeing Space and Communications Group Director for International Business Development, Asia-Pacific. After serving in various operational flying command and staff positions in the United States Air Force, Oberlin joined Boeing Helicopter Company as the Regional Sales and Marketing Manager for Far East Helicopter Sales in 1985. He was largely responsible for the sale of the first CH-47D Chinook aircraft to the Republic of Korea Army and HH-47D helicopter sales to the Republic of Korea Air Force. In 1992, Oberlin took a three-year absence from Boeing during which he was Executive Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea. In June 1997, Oberlin returned to Seoul to assume sales and marketing responsibilities for all Boeing Defense and Space Group products and services in Korea. Oberlin is actively involved in community affairs. He served as the president of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Korea and as a member of President Roh's National Economic Advisory Council from 2002-04. Oberlin is active in the US-Korea Business Council, Seoul Metropolitan City Foreign Investment Advisory Council, AMCHAM Korea Community Service Fund, and is a director of the United Service Organization (USO). Oberlin studied political science at DePauw University, and holds a MS degree in Systems Management from University of Southern California, and a MA degree in Military Arts and Science from US Army Command and General Staff College. He was a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
